Black History/Cultural Awareness is a program geared towards educating individuals about African-American History, Heritage and Culture. We reflect on the many accomplishments of African-Americans through journeys of slavery, racism and freedom. Participants will learn how African-Americans overcame adversity and they will also, be able to recognize how African-Americans are still faced with some of the issues their ancestors dealt with.
EXPRESSIONS focus on participants displaying expressions through writing, spoken word poetry, short plays, drawing & other forms of positive expression.
Reading Is Learning is a literacy program created to motivate and encourage youth to read daily for fun and for a level of understanding and comprehension. Participants are given age appropriate books to read weekly and they have group discussions about topics in a book or story. Volunteers also, read to the younger children.
Conversational Spelling helps to improve vocabulary & spelling capabilities while enhancing comprehension, memory and conversational skills. Children become better spellers, readers and analytical thinkers because of increased brain stimulation through conversational spelling.
Young ACHIEVERS is geared to empower youth to be self-sufficient at home, work and in the community. The youth participants are encouraged to take more leadership roles in school and in the community by volunteering when needed. Participants will learn leadership skills through motivation and coaching. They will be taught to make positive decisions, as well as, encouraged to be Productive Citizens in the community.
Financial Literacy is designed to teach people how to understand finances and the importance of budgeting and being financially responsible.
